Its not often that I write a preview for a single match on WWE programming. It’s not often a preview an entire show that isn’t a Pay-Per-View or special event. But three superstars, who will and have made major strides in pro wrestling today, were booked to battle each other in a Triple Threat match for the North American Title.

Ricochet, Pete Dunne and Adam Cole have all done their fair share of “5-star” matches (I hate typing that dumb rating by the way). Even in this year alone, you could make easy arguments for their taking part in a match of the year candidate. And most of the match of the year candidates involved some combination of Ricochet, Dunne and Cole.

This match wasn’t the match of the year, for me, but it definitely met the expectations we all have for these three superstars. And more importantly than our own expectations, what these three deserved to present to us…was a clean fight. And while I predicted (as well as every one of the Brothers of Discussion Faction members) a run in from the Undisputed Era, War Raiders…or maybe even a tag team to battle with Pete Dunne at War Games…none of that happened. Just great wrestling.

The bone I picked with the last battle between Dunne and Ricochet (while totally justifiable that Adam Cole and the Undisputed Era would want to interfere) was the fact that the match didn’t end clean. Again, it’s not a bad thing, but I got so involved and sucked into the match that I couldn’t even fathom an unclean finish. But…then it was time to Shock the System…

So, it was a definite surprise to see this match get a clean finish, but it was totally what these guys deserved. And when all was said and done…NXT may have crowned their new top star. Its one thing to be given the top title in your brand (like the NXT Championship that is currently sitting on the shoulder of Tommaso Ciampa), but to defend your title against two of the best in the business and come out on top…is an incredible nod and means way more than this night.

We all know Pete Dunne is one of the longest reigning champions in WWE history. We know that Adam Cole is leading a group that will most assuredly change the main roster (maybe as soon as December). So now…the man who has conquered and walked away from both of those superstars on multiple occasions is now…Ricochet.

He was recognized as the One and Only before he got to the WWE and is now…looking to not only be talented enough to hold that moniker…but also recognized and booked in that capacity as well.

Time to sit back and enjoy the rest of this ride (before we start asking for his NXT Championship, call up to the main roster, and Universal Championship victory over Braun Strowman).
