So I took a look at the draft from different prospect ranking pools, like Dobber, Elite Prospects, and TSN to find out who would be the ‘best available’ for the Detroit Red Wings to draft at the number 6 spot.

Let’s find some prospects that the Red Wings can trade back for and still find a solid 1st round pick. We take a look at Chaz Lucius, the Center from Minnesota, who is a top 20 draft prospect in the 2021 NHL Draft. The Red Wings could gamble a trade for more draft picks and select Lucius later in the 1st round and be happy with a 6 foot tall Center with a great shot.
We also discuss when the Red Wings should make a big splash in the free agent market, for the likes of Elias Pettersson or Andrei Svechnikov. When is the right time for an NHL team to start spending and how far away are the Red Wings from that point?
